Man of Steel

ByJaryd
By Jaryd

There’s no question as to what this drawing is! Jaryd did a great job in creating this version of Superman, with the giant S on the chest of his blue leotard, red boots and billowing cape, and purple jockstrap. I’m not sure how Clark Kent or his alter ego combs his hair with these T-Rex arms, but would any six year-old artist worry about that?

The Missing Bat?

By Kayla
I believe this is another Halloween drawing by a very young Kayla, probably created on the same day as the one in my previous post. I mentioned on my earlier post of her Halloween scene that it was missing a bat, and I’m guessing she decided that too, and then possibly created this drawing of what I think might be that missing bat.   However, the orange duck-feet and carrot-looking nose cause me to wonder if I might be wrong. It could be a penguin if you look at it differently. Regardless, I love the pose and long eyelashes on this creature.

Young McAshley Had a Farm Too

By Ashley
Ashley’s farm drawing fills up the whole page like Jaryd’s version, but has softer colors and a very tall silo! Her “hourse” has the most beautiful eyelashes!  I guess you could say her farm drawing got a feminine touch, even at age 5.

On Porpoise?

By Trent

I believe this crayon drawing by Trent at 4  is a porpoise or other sea creature. Its abstract quality makes it possible for it to be a whale or even a goldfish in an aquarium with some other blue fish. I love the wispy look and blending of colors. It’s swimmingly beautiful!

Cousin Love

By Bryanna

By Mackenzie

I just couldn’t resist adding these drawings by two cousins who captured what each saw in the little girl sitting across from her at the drawing table. I think a little artist license was used here because I doubt they were actually wearing choker necklaces!

The Haunting

By Kayla

This sweet crayon drawing by Kayla at 5, as she’s documented, captures the most important aspects of a kid’s favorite holiday.  What would Halloween be without a few carved pumpkins, a friendly ghost and a few flowers 😊? Wait….no bat? The perspective of the steps leading to the front door of this house makes me feel as if I am walking down a haunted hill.

An Arizona Rainy Day

ByAshley

I really love this water color painting by Ashley, created at an early age. I see a story of  a sunny Arizona day with a few thunderclouds overhead and the beginning of a rain shower. My favorite kind of day! I love her green carpet of grass and colorful flowers along the bottom, and I think the tree looks like one our desert Joshua trees….but is it?

Hotel Trent

By Trent

This building, drawn by Trent at an early age, reminds me of a cross between the Alamo and a Hilton Hotel! I like his use of perspective on the steps leading up to the very small entrance and the lights shining through the many windows. I also wonder if he was considering a string of hotels branded with his name someday?

In the Woods

By Jaryd

Another early drawing by Jaryd with an animal theme. I feel like I’m right there in the woods with that majestic buck….is it a deer, or is it an elk? ! I love his elegant set of antlers, either way.

Young McJaryd Had a Farm

By Jaryd

This drawing, made by Jaryd when he was very young, captures farm living at its finest; blue skies with lots of sunshine, green pasture,  happy animals staying inside the fencing. I Love his use of primary colors, the perspective of the animals, and the fact that he didn’t waste an inch of that piece of paper! Did you notice that one animal atop the small hill? Friend or foe?

Aliens at the Movies

Image by Mackenzie and Gma Jan

Mackenzie and I worked on an "other worldly" abstract idea: Aliens at the Movies! Looks like they've achieved intergalactic diversity!  I wonder if they were watching "Man of Steel"??

Beach Volleyball!

by Mackenzie and Gma Jan
Mackenzie and I drew this a while ago and I think it captures the feeling of sun in your eyes, sand in your toes, and anything goes! She drew one palm tree and me the other, and we ended up with coconuts galore! Beach Volleyball anyone?

Mac's County Fair

by Mackenzie and Gma Jan
Mackenzie and I hadn't drawn in a while so we spent the evening and early morning hours on Paint again.  She wanted to capture a county fair and here it is! We had a debate on the Ferris Wheel and ended up with a compromise....and I agreed to a purple customer service building and she allowed a few trees and flowers! We really liked how the roller coaster turned out!

Bird Family

by Bryanna

Bryanna loves to draw birds and created this family of birds settled on a branch while I was busy with something else.  I Love the intense colors, nurturing mother bird and clouds that dance overhead!

The Fruit of the Loom Fruit Guys

by Jan
Again, I used Microsoft Paint to illustrate a Halloween costume and how to make it for an article online...but alas... Yahoo Voices shut down.  At least I still have my Fruity guys here!

Halloween Costume

by Jan
I drew this picture for an article I recently wrote to illustrate how a pair of fuzzy dice costumes would look as a Halloween costume! Actually, my daughters were dice one Halloween when they were around 7 or 8. I wish I had a picture of that!

"Family Portrait"

by Bryanna and Gma Jan
Bree and I started this painting (intended to be a portrait of a fictional family) on a school half-day. I finished it after she was picked up by her Mom.  Bree had discovered how we could zoom in up to 8x and really fine-tune our pictures, which has allowed us to start creating more detail in our pictures. We copied one daughter for the second, the Dad for the Grandfather, and one of the Twins for the second.

Can you pick out the mom and dad and their three kids? How about Grandpa? His Girlfriend?  Grandpa's girlfriend's twin sons?

Oh dear, this is getting addictive! I think this should be a comic strip family.....hmm.

"Mac's Zoo"

By Mac
Okay, well, I helped too, but Mackenzie designed the layout and decided what animals should be in her zoo.  She also did many of the lines for the fence and all of the sidewalk. Haven't you seen a pig in a zoo?  Come on!

"Bar Talk"

by Jan
Abstract image of a bar I seem to remember during my party heyday.  Can you tell the figures are reflections in the bar mirror?  The smoke is the most accurate part of the picture!

"Frosty"

by Trent and Mackenzie
Mac says Trent should really get credit, but i doubt he really wants to admit drawing it (he's "cool", you know).  Frosty looks posed for a Christmas card, doesn't he?
Trent was learning how to use the circle tool and other drawing lines in making Frosty. Trent actually has artistic talent underneath his athletic jock surface.  When he was about ten he painted the most incredible rendition of my patio area in acrylic paint, and also draws pictures of skateboarders.

"Candles Aglow"

by Bryanna
Completely designed by Bryanna. These candles are ready for any holiday!

"The Underground"

by Bryanna and Jan
This was Bree's idea and she had the whole design in mind. Those are ants and worms in their underground homes, in case you couldn't tell. It kind of makes my skin crawl a bit.

"Dancing Girl"

by Mackenzie
A girl dancing on a patch of grass.

"Suzie Sells Seashells Down by the Seashore"

by Jan
Just a day at the beach. Where's Suzie? I love how the spray paint can softened each layer and blends the ocean into the beach and sky.

"Spring Flowers"

by Mackenzie and Jan
Mackenzie and I created these flowers by copying, flipping, pasting and coloring different colors.  She wanted to put this picture on her wall.
